Abstract

This article examines the evolving challenges of conducting ethnographic research in and on (global) China, focusing on how the political and social context has shifted over the past two decades. Using personal experiences and references to key studies, the author highlights the difficulties posed by increasing surveillance, censorship, and ideological pressures under Xi Jinping’s administration.
