This contribution develops from fieldwork research aimed at juxtaposing practices of food surplus collection and distribution in the European municipalities of Timișoara and Turin, focusing on the two local food banks. By analyzing similarities and differences, a diverse landscape of networks and actors emerges which, despite the varying levels of maturity in local food policies, presents a common framework of local challenges. The organization of these activities unveils significant social and economic dynamics, offering critical insights into the normative nature of these practices, their local impact, and the intricate correlation with the complex issue of food poverty.
