Secrets and black boxes: new challenges in the news media industry
Abstract
This text explores two approaches in the study of media: one focused on objects and the other on people involved in production. In research on Chinese journalism, there is a shift away from studies by international authors to those by Chinese researchers, complicated by access restrictions and self-censorship. The impact of artificial intelligence in the field is also highlighted, which requires new skills and resources to analyze not only the content, but also the technologies and algorithms involved to ensure a plurality of perspectives on China's narrative.
