According to Antony Kenny, history of philosophy is a special discipline “because the link between philosophy and its history is a far closer one” – i.e. closer than the history of other disciplines. In order to promote philosophical and historico-philosophical understanding, philology (broadly intended as the most accurate attention to philosophical texts) is recommended as a tool against history of philosophy intended as a collection of either heroes or mistakes.
