About the Journal

About Us

Philosophy Kitchen is a contemporary philosophy magazine that aims to create a space dedicated to theory, understood as the inextricable relationship between the foundation of knowledge and individual and political practice.

Philosophy Kitchen has an encyclopedic vocation because it believes that philosophy has always presented itself first and foremost as contaminated and connective knowledge: unable to find a foundation in itself, philosophy is an unstoppable explorer of impossible connections between different disciplines.

Philosophy Kitchen is a radical ecological space because it has no other purpose than to explore the network of systems, objects, images, knowledge and institutions in which it is immersed. This is its political vocation: the node that describes the network and its connections is actually changing.

Peer Review Process

The peer review process

The selection of reviewers for each proposal is the responsibility of the editors and takes into account a number of factors, including experience, expertise, and the input of the authors or other editors.

Each work proposed for publication is first read by at least one of the editors, who, if found on an initial examination corresponding to the journal's standards, sends it to two reviewers for an in-depth evaluation. The method used is that of blind review, in which the author does not know the name of his reviewers nor the reviewers that of the author.

The purpose of the review is to provide the authors with a reasoned opinion on the quality of the proposal itself. Reviews should also provide authors with guidance on how to improve their essays for publication in the journal.

The editorial staff uses the following software for automatic plagiarism check: Plagiarism check system in documents (Turnitin) and Search Engine Reports (www.searchenginereports.net)

Table of publication times

The journal guarantees to the authors the respect of the following timescales for the management of the editorial process:

- reading by the editorial board: within 3 weeks after submission;

- first round of peer review: within 4 weeks after assignment;

- communication to the author: within 7 weeks after submission;

- time for any changes by the author: within 4 weeks after the request for changes;

- final editorial decision: within 2 weeks after receipt of the modified version.

Frequency of publication

Philosophy Kitchen publishes two six-monthly issues, in March and September each year, by University of Turin.

Code of Ethics

Philosophy Kitchen follows the best publication criteria. The prevention of negligent publishing practices is one of the most important responsibilities of the Editorial Directors and the Editorial Board. The Code describes policies to ensure the ethical treatment of all those involved in the review and publication processes. PK's Editors and Editors, Editors, Auditors and Authors are advised to study these policies and to address any questions or concerns to the steering and editorial team (redazione@philosophykitchen.com).

These guidelines apply to any manuscript submitted to PK, and may be reviewed at any time by the Editor and Editors. The following duties for editors, authors and reviewers are based on the COPE – Core practices, https://publicationethics.org/core-practices (accessed July 2020)..

Duties of Chief Editor and Editor(s)

The Editor(s) and the Editor-in-Chief are responsible for the content of the journal and are required to ensure the integrity of any work published in it.

Decisions for Publication. The Editor(s) have the right to make final decisions about the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript, depending on the relevance, originality and clarity of the manuscript and its relevance to the journal.

Review of Manuscripts. PK practices a double-blind revision process, in which the Authors do not know the Reviewers and vice versa. It is the responsibility of the Editors/Auditors to ensure timely, independent, anonymous reviews by qualified reviewers who have no disqualifying conflicts of interest for any manuscript submitted to the journal. It is the responsibility of Editors to ensure that the journal has access to an adequate number of competent auditors. The reviewers will be identified in the journal at the end of each year. The list of reviewers is public and can be found on the journal's website.

Impartial review. The Editors/Curators and the Editorial Board must ensure that every manuscript received by PK is reviewed for intellectual content, without consideration of gender, gender, race, religion, citizenship, etc. of the authors.

Confidentiality of the material presented. Directors/Curators and the Editorial Board should ensure that systems are used to ensure the confidentiality and protection from misuse of material submitted to the journal under review, and the identity of the authors and reviewers, who should take all possible steps to protect the confidentiality of the identity of the authors and reviewers.

Disclosure. Editors should ensure that submitted manuscripts are treated confidentially and that content is not disclosed to anyone other than the author and reviewers, as determined.

Conflicts of Interest. Directors/Curators should refuse to consider a manuscript for which they have a real or potential conflict of interest resulting from a financial, competitive, collaborative, or other relationship or connection with any of the Authors, companies or institutions related to the manuscript.

Authorities. The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Directors have decisive authority and responsibility for the journal. The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Directors shall respect the constituent parts of the journal (Readers, Authors, Editors, Editors, Editorial Board) and shall strive to ensure the honesty and integrity of the journal's content and provide for the continuous improvement of its quality.

The duties of Reviewers

Unbiased reviews. Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts objectively, impartially and professionally. Reviewers should avoid personal bias in comments and judgments, and should express their opinions clearly and argue them. Reviewers should provide justified and impartial reviews. They should avoid personal attacks and should not include any material that is defamatory, inaccurate, libelous, misleading, obscene, scandalous, illegal, or objectionable in any other way, or that violates the copyright, privacy or any other rights of any other person.

Confidentiality. Information about manuscripts submitted by authors should be confidential and treated as privileged information. Reviewers should not discuss the manuscript with anyone other than Directors/Curators, nor should they discuss any information from the manuscript without permission.

Recognition of sources. Manuscript reviewers should ensure that authors have recognized all sources of data used in the research. Any similarity or overlap of the manuscript under consideration with any other published article of which the reviewer has personal knowledge must be immediately communicated to the Editors/Auditors.

Punctuality. If a reviewer believes that he or she cannot complete the review of the manuscript within the prescribed time, he or she should inform the Editor(s) so that the manuscript can be sent to another reviewer.

Right of renunciation. Reviewers must refuse to review manuscripts: a) if they have provided the Author with comments on the manuscript or a previous version of the manuscript; b) if they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, financial, institutional, personal, or other relationships or connections with any company, institution, or person related to the manuscripts.

Complaints. Any complaint regarding the journal should, in the first instance, be directed to the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Directors of PK.

Duties of the Authors

Originality. The Authors must ensure that their work is not copied, in any part, from other works, neither of their own production nor others, that the work is original and that it has not previously been published in whole or in part. Authors must not submit manuscripts (or manuscripts describing the same content) to several journals at the same time.

Author of the article. The author(s) is (are) those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the described study. Those who have made a significant contribution should be referred to as co-authors. The author must ensure that all co-authors have confirmed the final version of the article and have agreed to the final publication.

Plagiarism and self-plagiarism. All work in the manuscript must be free of plagiarism, forgery, forgery, or omission of significant material. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism constitute unethical editorial behavior that is unacceptable. PK reserves the right to assess cases of plagiarism and redundancy from time to time.

Recognition of sources and conflicts of interest. The author must explicitly indicate all sources that have contributed to the research and also declare any conflict of interest.

Access to data and retention. The Author shall provide the raw data related to the manuscript for editorial review and retain the data.

Punctuality. The Authors should be reminded in revisions. If an author fails to meet the deadline, the author should contact the Editor as soon as possible so that a decision can be made as to whether to allow a longer period of time or to withdraw the article from the review process.

Fundamental errors in published articles. The Author should promptly inform the Editors/Curators of any obvious errors in the published article and cooperate seriously with the Editors in withdrawing or correcting the article. If the Editor-in-Chief learns from others other than the author that the published article contains an obvious error, the author should write a retraction or make the correction based on the average of the publication.
