Abstract

The relationship between art and innovation is a combination not well explored yet. Most artistic operations today are developed through complex technologies, thus incorporating media that are fundamentally changing our societies. The relationship between technology implies some different reflections compared to traditional media which, inevitably, in addition to opening a dialogue with media studies, interfaces with innovation studies. Innovation is the discipline that studies the economic, technical and social development of technological advancement. The essay aims to be a first introduction into the relationships between art and innovation. After an introduction on the importance of engaging the medium in a new way through art history studies, a parallelism will be developed between studies on technological innovation, and art and media studies, an innovative parallel that allows us to open new routes of interpretation.
