Reworking the Carlo Diano’s categories of form and event, the text try to display, through three “dialectical images”, a path in ancient Greek theory and practice of images. The myth of the first portrait birth, the transformation of the meaning of gods' representation in archaic and classical Greece, the platonic “condemnation” of images and the problem of the double mimesis are the ways for querying the theoretical status of the image according to an urgently untimely perspective, showing its provocative, paradoxical fertility for contemporary thought.
