The richest reflections devoted to cinema by Bernard Stiegler precede his elaboration of the concept of pharmacology. This paper, however, aims to reconstruct those reflections as a pharmacological examination of the art of film. Firstly, it is clarified what a pharmacological examination is for Stiegler. Much attention is devoted here to criticizing and proposing a possible correction of the normative assumptions of Stiegler’s theory. Secondly, the “neganthropic” potentialities that, according to Stiegler, cinema possesses even though today, for the most part, audiovisual technology has been taken over by capitalism, with the resulting toxic effects, are examined.
