Author Biography

Ingrid Gessner, University of Education Vorarlberg

Ingrid Gessner is Professor of English and American Studies at the University of Education Vorarlberg, Austria. She serves as President of the European Association for American Studies (2024-2028) and as International Delegate of the Austrian Association for American Studies. She is a member of the editorial boards of Amerikastudien / American Studies and the Journal of the Austrian Association for American Studies, and acts as Director of the European Journal for American Studies. Her interdisciplinary scholarship spans visual culture studies, gender studies, and cultural memory. She is the author of Yellow Fever Years: An Epidemiology of Nineteenth-Century Literature (Frankfurt am Main, 2016), recipient of the Peter Lang Young Scholars Award, Collektive Erinnerung als Katharsis? Das Vietnam Veterans Memorial in der öffentlichen Controverse (The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Public Controversy (Peter Lang, 2000), and the awardwinning From Sites of Memory to Cybersights: (Re)Framing Japanese American Experiences (Universitätsverlag Winter, 2007). She has published widely on environmental and medical humanities as well as American studies pedagogy.
