Since classicism, literature has drawn on mythology as an inspiration for literary creation. The relationship between myth and literature has often awakened the theoretical interest of mythologists who, over the centuries, have interpreted the literary as a field in which to search for possible mythical residuals; however, it is only in the twentieth century that the relationship between myth and literature becomes the object of a specifically theoretical-literary reflection.
