Participatory Experiences as a New Way to Access Conservation Data in Museum Contexts

Abstract

The article explores the integration of participatory experiences in museum contexts to enhance access to conservation data. Following Simon’s principle of participatory museum, this contribution analyses the prototypes of two interactive experiences, BrancacciPOV and MyTISSE, developed in the framework of the research activity of CNR ISPC. The observation of the results of their evaluation sessions shows that both collaborative exploration in guided virtual tours and creative engagement are a possible answer to this research question.

Biografie autore

Manuele Veggi, National PhD in Heritage Science ("Sapienza" University of Rome / CNR - ISPC)

Manuele Veggi is a PhD candidate of the Italian National PhD Program in “Heritage Science”, with a scholarship funded by CNR - ISPC, and focuses on the exploitation of cultural heritage through interaction design and digital art history. In 2023 he received his MA in "Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge" at the University of Bologna with Prof. Pescarin and joined as visiting student the EPFL eM +, Laboratory for Experimental Museology. He worked at the Galleria dell’Accademia (Florence) and Fondazione Zeri (Bologna), and collaborates with the Research and Project Department of "Villa Vigoni - German-Italian Centre for European Dialogue".

Sofia Pescarin, CNR - ISPC (Florence)

Sofia Pescarin is senior researcher at CNR - ISPC in Florence, chairing the group within the Digital Heritage Innovation Lab. She received her PhD in “History and Computing” and a master in “Exhibition Design". She is also professor of Interaction Media Design at the University of Bologna. She authored and curated more than 150 scholarly publications and is Chief Editor of the Journal Elsevier “Digital Application in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage” (DAACH). She coordinated and worked in different projects, also at a European level, concerning virtual tools for cultural heritage. Currently she is the scientific coordinator of the EU project PERCEIVE.
