Abstract

 

The article provides an overview of Evelyn O'Malley's timely volume Weathering Shakespeare. Audiences and Open-air Performance (2021). Drawing on audience accounts of outdoor productions of Shakespearean plays, the book delves into the ways in which performers and audiences alike have reacted to unpredictable natural environments. Discussing O’Malley’s innovative approach to new and emerging performance practices, the article argues for a more conscious and ecologically aware perspective in theater studies, encouraging a deeper understanding of the interplay between nature, performance, and audience reception.

Francesca Forlini, Università degli Studi Roma Tre

Francesca Forlini è dottoranda in Letteratura inglese all'Università Roma Tre. I suoi principali interessi di ricerca riguardano il teatro britannico contemporaneo e l’intersezione tra le arti performative e l’ecologia. Dal 2018 collabora con la Festa di Teatro Eco Logico di Stromboli sotto la direzione di Alessandro Fabrizi. Francesca Forlini is a PhD candidate in English Literature at Roma Tre University. Her main research interests are contemporary British theatre and the intersection between performing arts and ecology. Since 2018, she has been collaborating with the Eco Logical Theatre Fest in Stromboli under the direction of Alessandro Fabrizi.
