Abstract

Saudi and Algerian proverbs can be an inviting topic for research on paremiology. Their study will shed the light on the social, cultural and linguistic phenomena which are at the origin of statements generally attributed to the popular voice, nourished by human experience, sometimes characterized by humor, or irony and critic.

In the present research, we will focus on the cultural specificities of proverbs scrutinized through the linguistic theory. The analysis will therefore be contrastive as these proverbs are paremics collected from two distant horizons (Algeria and Saudi Arabia). The cultural proximity of the two Arab-Muslim countries can sometimes reveal equivalences, but proximity does not always mean identity; differences will highlight specificities.

Bahia Zemni

 received her PhD in linguistics from Sorbonne-Nouvelle III University. Since 2012 she is Assistant professor at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, where she has headed the languages faculty Research Center. At present, she runs a research unit at the translation department, contributes to the research project: Translation from Arabic to French and vice versa in contextual dictionaries: mechanisms and strategies »and heads the project: « Artificial intelligence and audiovisual Translation ». Bahia has published several translations in collaboration with Louvre Museum and publishing houses: Skira in France and Alsaqui in Lebanon. She took part in serval national and international confrences and published widely-in well-established journals on the subject Linguistics and Translations.

Abdelhak Abderrahmane Bensebia, Mohamed Ben Ahmed University, Oran

Abdelhak Abderrahmane Bensebia

(College of Foreign Languages, Mohamed Ben Ahmed University, Oran, Algeria)

He is professor at the College of Foreign Languages of the Mohamed Ben Ahmed University. He earned his PhD in Language Sciences in 2010 under the framework of the Algerian-French Doctoral School of French at the University of Oran in co-supervision with the University of Paris 12. In 2014 he got the Habilitation certificate (HDR) required to supervise PhD research. He specialized in discourse analysis and content analysis and his teaching focuses on the analysis of different types of discourse through a statistical and stylometric approach within the framework of the French school of discourse analysis.

He published around twenty articles nationally and internationally. His scientific research production focuses mainly on teaching discourse analysis and the analysis of different types of discourse using different methodological tools and statistics in order to understand the specificities of each type of corpora

earned her PhD from the University of Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle in 2006. Since September 2016 she is an Assistant professor at the College of Languages, Translation Department, ​​of the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia). She has published several articles in the areas of discourse analysis and pragmatics, the most recent of which appeared in the Asian EFL Journal and in the Jordan Journal of Modern languages (JJMLL). She also contributes to the research project Analyzing Stylistic, Historical and Socio-cultural Markers: Their Weight in the Translation of Proverbs.

Mimouna Zitouni

is an Associate professor in translation studies (discipline English) at the Translation Department, College of Languages of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. She presently acts as the director of the Magister Translation Program at the Faculty of Languages. She took part in several international conferences and published widely on the subject of language use and translation studies.
