Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details:
    • E-mail address
    • Full postal address
  • All necessary files have been uploaded
  • Manuscript:
    • Include keywords
    • Include all figures (include relevant captions)
    • Include all tables (including titles, description, footnotes)
    • Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
    • Indicate clearly if color should be used for any figures in print
    Graphical Abstracts / Highlights files (where applicable)
    Supplemental files (where applicable)

  • Further considerations

    • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)
    • Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
    • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
    • Relevant declarations of interest have been made
    • Journal policies have been reviewed

Author Guidelines

Disclaimer: the Scientific Director and the Scientific Committee of Kervan are not liable for the content of articles published in the journal. The responsibility for content lies with the authors. Authors must ensure that the inclusion of textual material, audio or video in their contribution does not violate laws on copying and copyright.

Contributions should be submitted in electronic format .doc, .docx, .rtf (Rich Text Format) or .Pages and sent by email to the editorial board (mauro.tosco@unito.it).

Texts must be written using Unicode characters, even for the parts of the text transliterated into Latin character.

Submissions in English are strongly preferred; articles written in other languages may be occasionally accepted for publication if an abstract in English is provided.

The articles and the thematic sections of the essays should not be longer than 8,000 words; introductions to the thematic sections and the contributions for the "In conversation with" must not be longer than 5,000 words; Reviews should not exceed 2,000 words.

The thematic sections of articles and essays must be accompanied by the following attachments: - a summary of 200-400 words in English - a short biodata file, in English, no longer than 100 words - 3 to 10 key words in English - a PDF file of text and attachments. In addition to the summary, the author or editor can send a short video lasting up to 2 minutes, in which she briefly introduces herself and/or the contribution.

Any system of transcription or transliteration is accepted, provided it is commonly used or otherwise accepted by the academic community of reference. Deviations from standards must be declared and explained in the first footnotes page.

The articles and the thematic sections of the essays can be supplied with images, tables, charts, audio and / or video. All drawings, figures, and tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. Images should be sent as separate files. Each image must be a file, in .png, .jpg or .gif, with a maximum size of 3Mb . Any audio / video material must have a compatible format (.mp3, .aiff, .wav, .sfw, .flv, .mpg, .mov, .mp4) and must not exceed the size of 10 Mb.

Please use footnotes, not endnotes.

A complete bibliography of works cited must be placed at the end of articles and essays. Bibliography and references in the text or in the notes should follow the Chicago Manual of Style format Author-Date System

Authors are required to minimize the formatting of text, limited to:

  • Indent the text (left) in quotations longer than 2 lines, not using inverted commas
  • Use footnotes if necessary
  • Use italics only for transliterated parts or language other than the one in which the article is writte, and where required by the bibliographical references system.

Please submit, with the manuscript, the names, addresses and e-mail addresses of five potential referees. You may also name reviewers that you do not want to review your manuscript and state your reasons for doing so. Note that the editor retains the sole right to decide whether or not the suggested reviewers are used.

In order to be accepted for peer reviewing each manuscript must adhere to editorial guidelines. Authors must check that the submitted article is complete, and that typewriting, layout and references follow the journal guidelines for preparing and submitting a manuscript.
The editorial and scientific board will send peer reviewed articles to authors (Articles) within two months from submission. Reviewed articles must be sent back as soon as possible with corrections and revisions by authors according to the reviewers' suggestions, and when accepted for publication they will be made available online within one month.

The editorial board will strive hard to inform authors about accepted contributions to the section Reviews within two months from receiving the proposal.
