“Breve guida d’amore in terra, mare e cielo”: il Diario de un poeta recién casado (1916) di Juan Ramón Jiménez nelle pubblicazioni italiane del Novecento

Diario de un poeta recién casado (1916), published in Madrid in 1917, is the poetic, earthly and spiritual chronicle of Juan Ramón Jiménez's journey to the United States on the occasion of his marriage to Zenobia Camprubì Aymar in 1916. The book is considered to be a turning point in the lyrical parable of the "Andaluz Universal" and represented the beginning of modern symbolism in Spanish poetry. However, this text of extraordinary lyrical richness, considered by Jiménez to be his best work, has not had much resonance among Italian Hispanists and, in the words of the poet, "es un ciclo que no se ha visto", if we exclude the only two translations made in the 1970s. The aim here is to trace the discontinuous path of his reception in Italy through fragments of poems and prose from the Diary that have appeared in magazines, essays and collections.
