Abstract

In 1955 the young Anny Legras (later known by the stage name of Anny Duperey) found the lifeless bodies of her parents who died of accidental asphyxiation in their bathroom. From that moment a black veil has obscured any memory of her life with them prior to the tragedy. In 1992, she published Le voile noir, an autobiographical combination of the photographs taken by her father (Lucien Legras, a talent amateur photographer) and a text that dialogues with them in order to fight against amnesia and to investigate her parents’ personality. The present article aims to analyse the interaction between image and written text in this autobiographical phototext and the important role that these photographs acquire progressively in the grieving process.
