The author refutes the widespread notion that Epicurus completely rejected poetry in all its forms; he thinks, on the contrary, that it could sometimes assume a didactic value for Epicurus.
He makes use of various sources, including Lucretius and Cicero (as for the latter, he especially quotes De finibus, also assessing the reliability of the information derived therefrom). Furthermore, he analyses the relationship of Epicureanism with paidéia and Homeric epicism: Epicurus would not completely reject the latter either, but, according to Giancotti, he would accept some aspects of it.
