This essay aims to analyze the working method of the Italian screenwriter Rodolfo Sonego, one of the major authors of the Italian-style comedy, a genre whose prodrome, La Spiaggia, was written by him in 1954. The paper examines the close working collaboration with his wife Allegra Rossignotti and his identity as a globe trotter screenwriter: he used to write !lm subjects and scripts when he returned from his travels and some of his stories, such as Il diavolo or Il sorpasso, have inspired the production of many American on the road films, such as Easy Rider or Duel. By examining Sonego overall work and his screenwriting methodology, this paper attempts to show that the author has written movies capable of summarizing – remaining true to reality –, the history of the average Italian from the Post–World War II period up to the threshold of the third millennium.
