Thanks to the growing sensitivity for the safeguarding of memory and cultural heritage, private collections are increasingly deposited in archives that are called upon to outline new practices of reorganization and cataloging capable of providing a global vision of the heritage from a typological and legal perspective. The case of the Comet Film fund is exemplary. In 2023, the Scientific and Technological Archive – ASTUT of the University of Turin deposited at CSC – Archivio Nazionale Cinema d’Impresa 500 films in 35mm and 16mm attributable to the activity of Comet Film, a Turin production company operating in the 1950s and 1970s. The recovery by ASTUT combined with the conservation work and the cataloguing and digitisation by the Ivrea Archives have saved from oblivion a small piece of the history of cinema and the Italian economy, which was at risk of being lost forever.
