Abstract

The notion of method, in reference to dialogue, is not completely explicit in Truth and Method. Dialogue can be considered in relation to truth and therefore be more under control (this is the truth in dialogue). Yet, dialogue can be also understood as a human activity aimed at establishing relations among persons; in this case dialogue is therefore a value in itself (this is the truth of dialogue). The hermeneutical logics of question and answer requires a relation with the other based on wisdom, good judgment, and friendship. According to this perspective, and in opposition to the hermeneutics of suspicion, trust precedes mistrust, understanding anticipates misunderstanding.
