Abstract

What becomes of deconstruction between economy and economics? More specifically: how is one to work, with deconstruction, within the field presided over by the economic sciences? And how to begin intervening in this domain? This article attempts to answer these questions in two moments: 1) by situating deconstruction within the (conceptual and historical) field of economic thought; 2) by investigating the character of the economic agent within the field of deconstruction. In both these moments, one will come to observe a generalization of the economic: this reinscribes alike the naturalness of the oikos, the artifice of a transparent calculability, and the transcendence of the gift, only to bind itself instead to the vulgarity of a certain “remainder”.
