The ongoing technological advances are deeply changing our experience of photography. Yet, these changes do not make Derrida’s writings on photography any less relevant, on the contrary. This article emphasizes the relevance of Derrida’s perspective by comparing it with the creative and theoretical work of Joan Fontcuberta, one of the most original contemporary photographers and theorists of “post-photography”. Both have also commented Roland Barthes’ position on photography, but from different perspectives. Finally, by comparing Derrida and Fontcuberta, this essay attempts to highlight the philosophical relevance of photography.
