Abstract

Modern psychology is born also out of the dialogue and confrontation with the notion of pathology. The relation among psychology, pathology, and their representations has evolved a lot and can be retraced through some fundamental stages. In the current period, the systematization of scientific knowledge and psychopathology has been institutionalized in various models; nevertheless, many questions remain still open with respect to the genesis and evolution of pathology. In the course of its history, psychology has been able to go through several fundamental steps, which we will partly retrace, also thanks to its dialogue with philosophy. Looking prospectively at a reality that is quickly changing, we need to resume and keep going the dialogue with philosophy.
