Abstract

The thesis of this essay is that the current research quality evaluation system is allergic to greatness. The mantra of innovation seems intentionally made to caution us against novelty. Through an excursus on Foucault’s trans-subjectivization and Benjamin’s immanent critique of the work of thought, the essay contrasts the assessment of greatness with process and product evaluation, and provides recommendations aimed at identifying synthetic indicators of novelty and greatness within the humanities.
