Abstract

Simone Weil’s note on the suppression of political parties, which she writes in the midst of the war, is meant to be a contribution to the anti-fascist battle. Curiously, however, her polemic against parties retrieves an old argument belonging to historical forms of fascism, and anticipates recurrent themes in contemporary populism. This essay aims at exploring the gnostic-messianic root of the critique of the form “party” and, by employing a conceptual distinction proposed by Alfred N. Whitehead, it indicates a possible path for a re-grounding of the form “party” that is in harmony with the constitution.
