According to Peter Sloterdijk, saturation is one of the features of the contemporary world insofar as it is the outcome of a process of globalization grounded on the constitutive relation between human beings and spheres. After a description of the philosophical history of globalization, the essay moves to an analysis of the metaphor of “the foam,” which best represents the state of density and saturation of the global society. Within such a conceptual framework, the notion of saturation acquires various nuances of meaning. In the end, the issue is that of trying to formulate a critical evaluation of such phenomenon, grasping its novel features and distinguishing the threats from the opportunities that it presents in terms of the evolution of society.
