Abstract

Truth is not served on silver plates by obliging servants. One must look for the truth each time anew. Truth is the result of procedures and rules that are accepted and legitimated within a specific community, school, trial, parliamentary debate or a room in Congress where interests, values, hopes, and presumptions clash. In all these contexts the effort should be that not of imposing a truth, but of creating the conditions so that a truth may be reached together. The starting points are not to consider oneself the one who has a monopoly of the truth and be convinced that one’s task is to look for such a truth, not to prevent others from searching for it; all this without letting oneself be driven by impulses. It is not easy, and one does not always succeed.
