On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberazione, the article seeks to offer a broader reflection on the philosophical category of Resistance. Grounded on the history of the Partisan movement in Italy and engaging with the most recent historiographical contributions on the subject, the article identifies the self-affirmation and self-transformation of male and female fighters and militants as two key theoretical notions that may be productively employed to illuminate the practices of anti-fascism during the Resistance. By mobilizing such interpretive categories, the article also seeks to elucidate the pivotal role that the Partisan war - with its political pluralism and its transversal, transnational social dimensions - played in the arduous construction of post-war Italian republican democracy.
