Abstract

This text highlights the importance of bodily metaphors in the imagination of listeners and proposes an interdisciplinary model for analysing such forms of metaphorisation, drawing on Luca Marconi's reflections on the gestural expressiveness of music. In particular, it analyses the gestural expressiveness of Pink Floyd's song In the Flesh?, exploring how listening to music can evoke bodily movements and gestures. Using the Musical MetaKinesis model, the author examines how gestural metaphors emerge during careful listening to an excerpt from the song. The analysis focuses on four distinct proprioceptive behaviours, which correspond to different listening phases. These behaviours are linked to archetypal bodily patterns and reflect profound motor experiences, such as childbirth.
