L’Architettura come Processo. Materialità, Relazioni e Mutamenti

Abstract

This contribution proposes a radical reconfiguration of architecture, reconceived not as a finished object but as a dynamic and relational process. The objective is to overcome the traditional conception of the building as a conclusive formal outcome – a legacy of technical modernity – in order to embrace a processual vision that recognizes architecture as an event in continuous becoming, traversed by material, social and symbolic forces. The argumentative strategy integrates process philosophy, phenomenology and social theory. Through concrete examples – from La Borda in Barcelona to the Recycled Park in Rotterdam – it demonstrates how architecture can configure itself as an open field of possibilities, generated by continuous negotiation between materials, bodies, practices of use and environmental transformations. The contribution highlights how matter is not a passive substrate but an active co-agent in the design process. The originality lies in elaborating a processual ontology that dissolves traditional dichotomies – conception/realization, form/matter, design/use – to think architectural making as a situated practice of shared transformation. The result redefines the project as an operational field open to the unforeseen, capable of enduring through transformation: an architecture available for collective reappropriation and continuous change.
