Abstract

The concluding chapter of the Doctrine of Essence in the Science of Logic constitutes a paradigmatic nexus within Hegelian speculation, marking the transition from the traditional metaphysics of substance to a processual logic. Through the so-called refutation of Spinozism, Hegel acknowledges the significance of substance as an indispensable moment of philosophy, while simultaneously revealing its insufficiency to account for mediation, process, and freedom.
