Remarks on the elision of /g/ in Egyptian

Abstract

In this contribution, the elision of /g/ in the Egyptian language is investigated. Five examples are examined, ranging from the New Kingdom to the Late Period. The weak character of Egyptian /g/ stands out with clarity.

Author Biography

Stefan Bojowald, University of Bonn

Stefan Bojowald received his doctorate in 2017 with a thesis on Egyptian monasticism. His research focuses on Egyptian lexicography and phonetics, Egyptian ornithology, Egyptian-Near Eastern contacts and late antique Egypt. Since 2012, he has been a lecturer in Coptic language and literature at the University of Bonn.
