Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The National Health System is a living organism in constant evolution. New challenges emerge year after year within the healthcare landscape, and they are increasingly complex and demanding, requiring new professional roles capable of managing and guiding innovative projects.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) PoCT Manager was created precisely to meet this need.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

This new role enters the healthcare setting as a completely innovative and managerial figure, derived from an already established professional profile (MLS).

Its purpose is the creation, management, and governance of Point of Care Testing networks, not only within hospitals but also across territorial healthcare services.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The PoCT Manager MLS has proven to be highly competent and capable of designing and managing the installation of an Infectious Disease Hotspot in full compliance with current laws and regulations.

This role contributes concretely to achieving corporate mission objectives and to bringing laboratory diagnostics closer to the patient, whose health—through prevention, diagnosis, and treatment—remains the ultimate goal of the PoCT Manager’s work.

CONCLUSIONS

The PoCT Manager MLS emerges as a central figure in the comprehensive management of PoCT systems, from installation to full operational deployment.

This role demonstrates decision making autonomy, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate with professionals from various fields. It enhances the value of the Medical Laboratory Scientist beyond the traditional laboratory setting, highlighting organizational and managerial skills and contributing to a safer, faster, and more patient centered diagnostic service.
