In this paper are published eight letters sent from Theodor Mommsen to Carlo and Vincenzo Promis. These letters belong to the rich correspondence entertained between Mommsen and some Italian scholars aimed at the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum construction. A leading role is played by requests about Pirro Ligorio Latin inscriptions collected in the manuscripts now kept in the Turin National Archives. Analysing these letters permits us directly to know Mommsen's opinion about the Neapolitan antiquarian, and especially to closer observe some parameters used for the falsae ligorianae edition.
