Nel IV secolo d.C. l’età richiesta per l’assunzione della questura e della pretura, in concomitanza con la perdita, totale o parziale, delle competenze magistratuali, fu sensibilmente abbassata. Qui però si vuole dimostrare che il testo del Chronicon di Girolamo (s.a. 374), su cui è basata l’opinione che Publicola sia stato il più precoce pretore urbano conosciuto, deve essere assoggettato a correzione.
The age of quaestors and praetors was sensibly lowered in the IVth century A.D., together with the total or partial loss of competences. However, it is shown here that a correction should be made to the text of Jerome’s Chronicon (s.a. 374), on which the opinion that Publicola was the youngest urban praetor known is based.
