An inscription found in Thyateira (Asia Minor, Lydia) remembers a “chief physician of the whole xystos”, office elsewhere not attested epigraphically. The comparison with an imperial constitution and numerous epigraphic testimonies, however, not only clarifies the specific function of this peculiar figure, but also proposes a possible dating of the carved text.
