Orestes. La persona greca nei frammenti del teatro latino

Abstract

The scanty fragments of Andronicus, Naevius, Ennius and Pacuvius about Orestes are intelligible by the myth, the Greek epic, the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and the vase painting. A good grasp of the reason why Orestes is a matricide requires reconstruction of plots, where he needs purification. The Greek and Roman dramatic poets denounce by Orestes’s mask the Delphic oracle, the superstitious beliefs and the despotism of potentates.
