De bandoneones y frigoríficos: objetos de memoria e identidad en la literatura migrante italo-argentina

En este trabajo voy a estudiar la conexión entre objetos de la literatura migrante italo-argentina y la identidad de quien los utiliza, lleva e inventa. Haciendo hincapié en esta idea, en mi artículo voy a analizar dos obras. La música y la carne recurren en la novela de Cugia, Tango alla fine del mondo (2013), a través del bandoneón y del frigorífico. El primero, instrumento musical comúnmente utilizado en el tango, devuelve a uno de los protagonistas la vida, y la invención por su parte del segundo para transporte naval de carne le da la oportunidad de rescate. Los dos instrumentos cruzan el Atlántico y son a la vez objetos de memoria y medios de ‘conservación’. El bandoneón, evolución alemana de su antecesor italiano, el acordeón, se encuentra también en la novela de R. Tizziani, Mar de Olvido (1992), junto con la carne (y el matadero) – los dos objetos significativos en la vida de muchos migrantes.

Abstract

In this article, I will study the connection between objects of the Italo-Argentinian migrant literature and the identity of those who use, carry and invent them. To do so, I analyze two novels. Music and meat constantly appear in Cugia’s Novel, Tango alla fine del mondo (2013), through the images of the bandoneón and the refrigerator. The former, a musical instrument commonly used in tango, provides a second chance in life to one of the protagonists. The latter, invented in the novel by the main character for the naval transport of meat, gives him a chance to redeem himself. Both artifacts travel across the Atlantic operating as objects of memory and means of ‘conservation’. The bandoneón, German evolution of its Italian predecessor, the accordion, is also found in the novel by R. Tizziani, Mar de Olvido (1992), along with meat — both significant objects that affect and transform the lives of many migrants.
