Ercole Ricotti and the Teaching of History
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to offer some reflections on the teaching methods of Ercole Ricotti (1816-1883), who was the first professor of medieval and modern history at the University of Turin. Having held a professorship from 1846 to 1879, Ricotti gradually refined his teaching methodology while devoting himself with great resolve to the training of future history teachers, which was the main focus of his lectures.
