This article highlights the figure of the surgeon and neuroanatomist Vincenzo Giacinto Malacarne through a new perspective, that of his “Lettere famigliari”, manuscript so far unpublished. These letters inform us about his private life, his friends and habits, and allow us to better understand the cultural level of medicine at the end of the 18th century and in the first decades of the 19th century.
