Abstract

This essay focuses on the Rome-based project of the Guide invisibili, whose participants dwell in different areas of the Italian capital guided by the recorded voices of migrant subjects. Such voices intertwine the illustration of the specific cultural resonance of the neighborhood with an account of their own experiences. This experiment offers the chance for a reflection on the layering of urban space, on the palimpsest-like structure of our own psyche, as well as on the atmospheric potential of the human voice as the means for an empathic encounter with otherness.
