Abstract

This article addresses the theory of essay writing in José Ortega y Gasset’s philosophy and in Robert Musil’s literary production. The objective is to explore how two different discourses, the philosophical and the literary, present a set of similar ideas about essay writing. In order to do so, the article puts forward a theory of reality in which the questioning gazes of the objects require an essayistic approach where the verisimilar replaces the systematic pretensions to truthfulness.
