Sur le goût de Cicéron à l'époque des Verrines

This paper focuses on Cicero's artistic sensibility in the period in which he composed the Verrines; this sensibility concerns both the literary sphere, in which he was particularly precocious (it therefore analyses the evolution of his style), and that of the figurative arts: according to the author, he never really understood their intrinsic value throughout his life. In fact, not only was he unable to understand Verres' passion for works of art that had induced him to take possession of them, but even in collecting Cicero lacked a precise taste: in his choice he rather relied on moral and philosophical considerations.
