Abstract

The article concerns the presence of European and Christian Sultanas in the Ottoman harem, of which some were of Italian origin. But at times these are imagined persons, such as the Bella Marsilia or Rosa, sister of the adventurer Giorgio del Giglio. Legends have also grown around real people such as Nur Banu, whose origins are still material for discussion.
