Le forme dissonanti della violenza

Abstract

This essay addresses the notion of violence from the following three points of view: a) the indirect effects of violence through an explanation of the connection between identity and sense of belonging in Amartya Sen’s writings; b) the management of violence, that is, the ethical restrictions that in Thomas Nagel’s analysis have to be imposed on ways to fight war; and c) the emancipatory, acceptable, and perhaps inevitable role of violence in Michael Walzer’s reflections about emergency ethics, “just war,” and humanitarian intervention.
