Abstract

“Antonio Grossich. A doctor in D’Annunzio Court”. Antonio Grossich (1849-1926) was an Istrian doctor who introduced the systematic use of iodine tincture into surgical practice and wound disinfection. His name is also linked to the Fiume adventure of Gabriele D’Annunzio (1919-1920). The doctor, now elderly, lived the five hundred days of the undertaking as a fervent irredentist alongside the poet, holding a pre-eminent political position and maintaining a strong relationship with the Vate until the end. His character as a doctor emerges at every moment of the Rijeka affair.
