La mesa y el baúl. Los objetos de la memoria íntima en la narrativa de migración

En su ensayo La gelosia delle lingue el escritor ítalo-argentino Adrián Bravi afirma que, si tiene que imaginar cuál es su patria, piensa en la mesa donde lo ponían de muy chiquito, cuando la crecida del río Luján inundaba la casa en que vivía con su familia (Bravi, 2017: 12). Esa mesa es un lugar de la memoria que representa un espacio de seguridad y reconocimiento. Otro objeto que concentra la memoria de una vida es el baúl del inmigrado, que en la novela Los sueños antes del despertar de Maximiliano Mariotti contiene pasado y futuro. Ese mismo baúl que el protagonista encuentra en el monumento dedicado a los inmigrantes en Colonia Caroya. Sobre la importancia de estos objetos en los autores migrantes y la potencia evocativa de otros, como los espejos o las agendas donde se anotan las memorias de lo vivido, se concentra este trabajo, que intenta esbozar una suerte de “paseo entre los bosques narrativos” en búsqueda de las huellas que la buena literatura sabe dejar en ese espacio entre el recuerdo íntimo y la memoria colectiva.

Abstract

In his essay "La gelosia delle lingue", the Italian-Argentine writer Adrián Bravi affirms that, if he has to imagine what his homeland is, he thinks of the table where they used to put him when he was very little, when the flooding of the Luján River inundated the house where he lived with his family (Bravi, 2017: 12). That table is a place of memory that represents a space of security and recognition. Another object that concentrates the memory of a life is the immigrant's trunk, which in the novel "Los sueños antes del despertar" by Maximiliano Mariotti contains past and future. This is the same trunk that the protagonist finds in the monument dedicated to the immigrants in Colonia Caroya. This work focuses on the importance of these objects in migrant authors and the evocative power of others, such as mirrors or diaries where the memories of the lived experience are written down. It attempts to outline a sort of "walk through the narrative forests" in search of the traces that good literature knows how to leave in that space between the intimate memory and the collective memory.
