Resumen

The article advances an ecocritical reading of Luís de Camões’s Canções, arguing that nature operates not as a mere lyrical background but as an active agent of meaning-making. Using frameworks such as material ecocriticism, hydrocriticism, and geocriticism, the study highlights the entanglement of landscape, memory, and poetic subjectivity. Elements such as water, light, vegetation, and river space shape the poetics of desire and suffering, acquiring a central semantic and affective function. The essay concludes that, although situated in a premodern context, Camões’s lyric poetry anticipates a relational and non-strictly anthropocentric ecopoetic sensibility.
