Resumen

The study investigates the presence of the sea as a "narrative space" in the Syracuse (1569) by Paolo Regio, writer active in the second half of the sixteenth century. A privileged place for "story telling", the sea in this work is the driving force of the action and a useful motif for the construction of stories focused on the themes of love, magnanimity as well as deceits and metamorphosis. A changing and capricious element, the sea is for Regio a reality with precise geographical boundaries, a place of maturation, meeting and dialogue, but at the same time a great metaphor for the variety and unpredictability of human life.
