Resumen

This work focuses on the testimonial account of one of the most unfortunate naval battles of the empire of Charles V: the day of Algiers in 1541. We will analyse the Greco-Latin model and its influence on the humanist chronicle of Francisco López de Gómara. The author went to the contest and described a humiliating defeat for both Emperor Charles V and Hernán Cortés. To do this, he used the resources of the classical epic also present in his account of the conquest of Tenochtitlan. As we will see, thanks to this historiographical model he achieved an epic and rigorous story.
